10 Facts about India's Longest River Rope-way Over Brahmaputra

The concept of cable cars or rope way is a noteworthy way to attract vacationers to a place. The Assam government also undertook the rope-way project for the enhancement of tourism potential in the state.

Here are ten interesting things you need to know about the newly-inaugurated rope-way in Assam connecting Guwahati city with North Guwahati.

1) This rope-way will allow transportation of passengers from North Guwahati to Guwahati City.

2) India’s longest river ropeway will pass over the 1.8 KM stretch on the mighty river Brahmaputra.

3) The rope-way will operate from Kachari Ghat in Pan Bazaar, up to the Doul Govinda Temple in North Guwahati.


4) The rope-way will facilitate passengers to cross the river in just 7 minutes.

5) Passengers travelling on the rope will be able to sight the Urvashi Island and catch a glimpse of the Umananda Temple on Peacock Island.

6) The ropeway has a load capacity of 30 + 1 (Passengers + Operators). But as of now, the capacity has been reduced by 50% i.e. 15 passengers due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Seating arrangements have been kept exclusively for senior and differently-abled citizens.

7) The rope-way having a capacity of 250 PPH (Persons Per Hour).

8) The project has been completed at a total cost of Rs 5608.20 lakhs.

9) It is ecologically sustainable as it is run by Electric power protecting the beauty of the area.

10) The rope-way's ticket fare is Rs 100 for a to and fro commute.
