District Health Society Bongaigaon Organizes Rally and Meeting at Bongaigaon BPHC to Mark the 5th International Day of Clean Air and Blue Skies. Theme for 2024: "Invest in Clean Air Now"

In observance of the 5th International Day of Clean Air and Blue Skies, the District Health Society Bongaigaon organized a significant rally and meeting at the Bongaigaon Block Primary Health Centre (BPHC). The event emphasized the importance of clean air as a vital element for health and well-being, aligning with this year's theme, "Invest in Clean Air Now."

The initiative was part of the National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH) and aimed to raise awareness about the detrimental impacts of air pollution on public health, as well as to promote actionable strategies for ensuring cleaner air in the region.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Badal Chandra Sarkar, I/C Joint Director of Health Services (DHS), Bongaigaon, who stressed the urgency of collaborative efforts across all sectors to combat the growing threats of air pollution. Dr. Sarkar highlighted the need for sustained investments in technologies and policies that promote cleaner air.

Dr. M. Hussain, I/C SDM&HO, emphasized the role of the healthcare sector in leading the charge against environmental challenges, noting that health workers play a pivotal role in educating the public about the health risks associated with poor air quality.

Dr. Binita Deka, I/C Bhawlaguri UPHC, addressed the gathering on the crucial role that community healthcare workers, such as ASHAs and ANMs, can play in disseminating information on air pollution control at the grassroots level.

Mr. Dhrubajyoti Choudhury, NPCCHH Consultant, provided insights into how climate change directly impacts human health, particularly through the worsening of air quality. He stressed the need for immediate action to safeguard future generations.

The event also saw active participation from DME Sangeeta Das ,DDM (IDSP) Surajit Suyradhar ,the District Tobacco Control Coordinator Biswajit Baroi and his team, who advocated for smoke-free environments as a critical component of clean air initiatives. BAM,BCM and staff from across Bongaigaon BPHC, including ASHAs, ANMs, and other healthcare dignitaries, joined hands to amplify the message of clean air for all.

The day concluded with a rally that drew attention to the importance of clean air, where participants carried banners and placards urging immediate action to reduce air pollution and protect public health.The District Health Society Bongaigaon reaffirm its commitment to the well-being of the community by actively addressing the challenges posed by air pollution. The Society will continue to engage in initiatives that advocate for healthier environments in line with the NPCCHH's mission.
